Pine Bluff Observatory Open House
On Sunday, August 23rd, 2009 (August 30th, in the event of rain), from 6-10pm join astronomers and physicists from the UW-Madison for guided tours of Pine Bluff Observatory, coffee, snacks and stargazing. Help celebrate the International Year of Astronomy as you join us for an evening of family fun.

If the event is postponed due to weather, we will post the decision here by 3pm on Sunday, August 23rd.

Schedule of Events

Tours of the Pine Bluff facilities will be given throughout the night, starting at 6pm.
6pm Galileoscope Workshop: Build your own working telescope and take it home for only $15. Space in the workshop is limited, so advance registration is required. To sign up, email Ella Braden at braden_at_astro_dot_wisc_dot_edu.
6pm Solar observing: See the sun as you've never seen it before!
8:15pm Celestial observing: View stars, nebulae and planets through several telescopes.

The open house itself is free and open to the public. Parking is available but limited. The Pine Bluff Observatory is located at 4065 Observatory Road in the Town of Cross Plains. A map of the area is available here.

This event is brought to you through the UW astronomy and physics departments and UW Space Place. Special thanks to the director of UW-Madison University Communications, Terry Devitt and the Madison Astronomical Society.
